Problems You May Face When Using an Electric Bike

Battery issues:

Leaving it for a long time:

A common mistake that many people make is leaving the battery unused for an extended period. The battery of any device, if left unused for a long time, will be damaged due to the chemical reaction inside it. If that battery is attached to a device, it can cause significant problems for that device as well. If it is necessary to leave your bicycle unused for a long time, the battery must be removed and stored in a closed, warm place.

Overcharging:

Some people often overcharge their bicycle batteries, which decreases the lifespan of their bicycle battery. The standard rule for charging a battery is to remove it from charge when it exceeds 85%. While a 100% charge is not problematic, frequently keeping it fully charged for extended periods will decrease the battery’s lifespan.

Charging abuse:

Frequent battery charging reduces battery life. Research suggests that the standard rule for charging the battery is to charge it when it is below 30% and disconnect it when it is above 85%. Outside of this rule, you can charge or disconnect the battery if urgently needed. Repeatedly violating these guidelines will reduce your battery’s lifespan.

Crush and drop:

Almost all batteries are drop and crash tested before they come to market. However, these tests are conducted in the static state of the battery. Frequent drops or crashes will definitely affect the internal and external parts of the battery.

Penetration with foreign objects:

When the battery needs servicing or repair, some people fix the battery with third-party parts to save money. This has long-term negative effects on the battery. Do not use third-party parts; instead, use the original service or product for long-term benefits.

Repair and maintenance issues:

E-bikes are more complex than regular bicycles due to their electrical components. This complexity makes maintenance and repair more difficult and expensive than normal bicycles.

Initial investment:

E-bikes are significantly more expensive than regular bicycles, which can be a deterrent for many potential users.

Replacement cost:

Battery replacement, which may be needed every few years, can be expensive. Additionally, other components such as motors or specialized parts can be costly to replace.

Accidents:

E-bikes can cause more injuries in the event of an accident because of  their higher speed and weight. Riders may also be required to wear protective gear, which is not always enforced or considered.
