How to maintain and extend the battery life of your electric bike

As a cyclist I saw through proper use and proper maintenance, the battery life of your bicycle must increase by many percent. I can say from my experience that most people do not know how to use batteries properly. They make a mess of battery charging rules, don’t pay attention to maintenance, don’t know what to do if they don’t need to be used for a long time etc.

Charging rules

The standard rule of battery charging is to charge the battery when the average power of the battery is less than 20%, and to disconnect it when it is above 90%. This guideline should be followed unless there are valid reasons for making an exception. Sometimes breaking this rule will not be a problem. But if you don’t follow the charging rules of the battery frequently, it will reduce the life of the battery by many percent. Due to which the battery of the same model lasts 1.5 years for one person and 2.5 years for another.

Poor Quality Components

Due to the increasing demand of e-bikes, different quality products have entered the market. Batteries from less reputable manufacturers may lack proper safety measures, making them more likely to cause fire or danger

Improper Handling and Maintenance:

Mishandling batteries, such as dropping them or exposing them to extreme temperatures, can compromise their integrity. Additionally, poor maintenance practices, like using incompatible chargers or not adhering to manufacturer guidelines, can significantly reduce the battery life.

What to do if you don't want to use the battery for a long time :

In this situation, if you can remove your battery from the bicycle, then remove the battery and store it in a warm-closed place. This will reduce the chemical reaction of the battery, and keep the battery in good condition for a long time.

Leaving the battery outside for a long period of time without use can cause internal chemical reactions to cause the battery to rot, which can damage the battery motor and other parts.
